Sulabh International, in collaboration with the Sulabh-International Institute of Health and Hygiene (IIHH) EIACP Resource Partner, organised an Awareness-cum-Cleanliness Drive on 17 September 2026 at Mahavir Enclave, Palam-Dabri Road, New Delhi, as part of the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign.
Observed annually since 2017, Swachhata Hi Seva is a nationwide campaign that seeks to strengthen public participation and collective action for cleanliness. This year’s campaign, themed “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag; Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat”, places particular emphasis on Jan Bhagidari, or people’s participation, and encourages students and young people to play an active role in fostering sustained behavioural change towards cleanliness and sanitation.
Aligned with this larger national objective, Sulabh’s initiative sought to engage students and the local community in promoting cleanliness, personal hygiene, sanitation and a shared sense of responsibility towards maintaining clean surroundings.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from approximately 2,000 people, including students and teachers from Sulabh Public School and MCD Primary School, Mahavir Enclave, along with members of the local community. The strong participation reflected the spirit of community engagement and collective action at the heart of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign.
During the awareness session, Dr Namita Mathur, Coordinator, Sulabh-IIHH EIACP Resource Partner, interacted with the students and highlighted the importance of cleanliness, personal hygiene, proper sanitation practices and maintaining clean surroundings. She encouraged them to make cleanliness a part of their everyday lives and contribute towards creating healthier and more hygienic homes, schools and communities.
Following the awareness session, students, teachers and members of the local community participated in a Swachhata rally and cleanliness drive from Sulabh Public School to Ayyappa Temple. Participants actively cleaned public spaces along the route, taking the message of Swachhata beyond awareness and translating it into collective action.
The initiative also reflected the focus of Swachh Paathshala – Yuva for Swachhata and Jan Bhagidari for Swachhata, two key pillars of Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 that encourage youth engagement and wider community participation in cleanliness initiatives.
Through the awareness and cleanliness drive, Sulabh reinforced its longstanding commitment to promoting sanitation, hygiene and cleaner communities through awareness, public participation and action on the ground, contributing to the larger vision of “Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat.”
