Lucknow, April 20, 2025 — In a heartfelt tribute to the legacy of Dr Bindeshwar Pathak, founder of Sulabh International, Union Defence Minister Hon’ble Shri Rajnath Singh unveiled his statue and inaugurated a road named in his honor in the Aliganj area of Lucknow. The ceremony celebrated Dr Pathak’s monumental contributions to sanitation, social reform, and human dignity in India.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Rajnath Singh lauded Dr Pathak as a “missionary” who transformed India’s sanitation landscape. “Bindeshwar Pathak was not just an individual but an entire movement with a far-sighted social objective,” he remarked. He emphasized that Dr Pathak’s efforts brought Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of cleanliness as a form of service to life, revolutionizing the nation’s approach to sanitation and hygiene.
The Minister highlighted Dr Pathak’s pioneering work in introducing cost-effective, eco-friendly toilets that significantly improved public health and upheld human dignity. “His contribution revolutionized India’s sanitation ecosystem, demonstrating how authentic service can drive meaningful societal transformation,” he noted.
Mrs Nitya Pathak of Sulabh International expressed deep gratitude for the recognition bestowed upon Dr Pathak. She described the naming of the road as a fitting tribute to his enduring legacy. “This honor reflects the nation’s acknowledgment of his relentless dedication to social reform and sanitation,” she said.
