Shikhar Se Sagar Tak: From Peaks to Shores

Shikhar se Sagar Tak (From Peaks to Shores) was conceived in 2024 by Kumar Dilip, President of Sulabh International, with a vision to make India’s most fragile ecosystems plastic-free and to drive the message of cleanliness among tourists, pilgrims, and local communities across the Himalayas and coastal regions.

The programme took off in 2024 in collaboration with the Indian Mountaineering Foundation, beginning with the Clean Himalaya Campaign in the sacred landscapes of Adi Kailash and Om Parbat.

In its first year (2024), the campaign reached 7 high-altitude villages and sites—Gunji, Nabi, Kuti, Jeolingkong, Sinlapass, Kalapani, and Nabidhang—collecting 549 bags of plastic and other waste, installing dustbins along trekking routes, conducting health camps, and engaging pilgrims and residents in responsible tourism practices

In 2025, the initiative expanded further, strengthening community participation, deepening awareness drives, and extending Sulabh’s cleanliness mission from the mountains toward coastal ecosystems—transforming the programme into a continuous, nationwide movement for environmental stewardship.

Today, Shikhar se Sagar Tak stands as a growing people’s movement—linking peaks to shores—uniting volunteers, institutions, and local communities to protect India’s natural heritage through collective action, sustainable practices, and the shared responsibility of keeping our landscapes clean.
