Sulabh International Social Service Organisation
Sulabh International is committed to advancing environmental sustainability by protecting fragile ecosystems, promoting responsible waste management, and mobilising communities to preserve India’s natural heritage. Under this focus area, Shikhar se Sagar Tak (From Peaks to Shores) was conceived in 2024 by Kumar Dilip, President of Sulabh International. The initiative envisions making India’s most ecologically sensitive regions plastic-free while spreading the message of cleanliness among tourists, pilgrims, and local communities across the Himalayan and coastal regions.
The programme was launched in 2024 as a national environmental initiative aimed at linking mountain and coastal ecosystems through a shared mission of sustainability and responsible environmental practices. The first project under this initiative — the Clean Himalaya Campaign — was undertaken in collaboration with the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), beginning in the sacred landscapes of Adi Kailash and Om Parbat.
In its inaugural year (2024), the campaign covered seven high-altitude villages and key sites — Gunji, Nabi, Kuti, Jeolingkong, Sinlapass, Kalapani, and Nabidhang. During this phase, 549 bags of plastic and other waste were collected. The initiative also included the installation of dustbins along trekking routes, organisation of health camps, and active engagement with pilgrims and local residents to promote responsible tourism and sustainable waste management practices.
In 2025, the initiative expanded further — strengthening community participation, deepening awareness efforts, and extending Sulabh’s mission from the mountains toward coastal ecosystems. This expansion transformed the programme into a continuous, nationwide movement for environmental stewardship.
Today, Shikhar se Sagar Tak stands as a growing people’s movement — truly linking peaks to shores — bringing together volunteers, institutions, and local communities to safeguard India’s natural heritage through collective action, sustainable practices, and a shared responsibility to keep our landscapes clean.

Recognition & Impact
From the sacred heights of Adi Kailash and Om Parbat to the shores of Visakhapatnam, Sulabh International’s environmental campaigns have directly engaged pilgrims, tourists, students, and local communities — collecting hundreds of bags of plastic waste and installing lasting infrastructure along sensitive ecological corridors.
The Shikhar se Sagar Tak initiative reflects Sulabh International’s belief that environmental sustainability and human dignity are inseparable. By linking sanitation, cleanliness, and community empowerment, the programme advances a vision of a cleaner, healthier India — from its highest peaks to its farthest shores.
