VRINDAVAN: For the first time Vrindavan widows gathered in the city to take part in Yoga on Thursday. A three-day ‘yoga camp’, inaugurated by Niti Ayog advisor, Debabrata Das, was set by up in Chetan Vihar. The camp was organized by Sulabh International, an NGO.

Around 1,000 widows are to be part of the camp. Speaking on the occasion, Das said that yoga is a free of cost method to maintaining good health.

Sulabh International took this initiative to help bring the widows to the mainstream besides ensuring their social assimilation, after the Supreme Court expressed grave anguish over the appalling conditions in which these widows live.

On December 11, 2014 the United Nations General Assembly had declared June 21 to be celebrated as the International Yoga Day.
