Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Sulabh Sanitation Award was conferred on All India Institute of Hygiene and Public Health, established in December 1932 for its service in sanitation and public health.

The award carries Rs. 2 lakh in cash, a citation and a gold plaque with Rajiv Gandhi’s image was presented to the Institute’s Director Prof. K.J. Nath by the then Lok Sabha Speaker Hon’ble Sh Shivraj Patil.


Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak, Founder of the Sulabh International said that the award had been named after the late Prime Minister because of the contribution made by him in promoting sanitation, preventing environmental pollution and abolishing scavenging in the country.
