Sulabh Encyclopaedia on Sanitation
The Sulabh has prepared an Encyclopaedia of Sanitation. It gives a new
dimension to public health and seeks to highlight the factors in the physical
environment which exercise a deleterious effect on people’s physical, mental or
social capabilities. It is a unique academic exercise, spread over a decade and
compiled by a team of dedicated technical professionals with expertise in all areas
of sanitation.
The Encyclopaedia of Sanitation, a new reference work, is also designed to
complement the existing literature available on health, hygiene and sanitation.
One of the major objectives of this encyclopaedia is to encourage the rapid
development of sanitation and hygiene throughout the world and to serve as a
guide to public health professionals and administrators. The encyclopaedia aims
at the standardization of terminology and research procedures, largely through
examples and articles that have been included expressly for this purpose. It will
help all those who are working towards creating a pollution-free society.
The encyclopaedia marks the new openings for the academics to prepare
teaching modules for students and building the cadre for bringing about a social
transformation in society. In the Third World, in particular, the major cause of
environmental pollution is the absence of awareness of hygienic and safe human
waste disposal systems. The encyclopaedia also creates an awareness among
the intellectuals to shed the conventional notions and develop a commitment to
health and hygiene. As yet there is no single reference book in this area. Indeed,
knowledge about sanitation is scattered all over. The encyclopaedia seeks to
consolidate such knowledge and make it a ready reference work for professionals
and health workers alike. |
