Agra: Noted film actress and BJP MP from Mathura Hema Malini on Saturday exhorted women to use toilets instead of going to the fields, as part of a nationwide sanitation campaign.
Launching ‘Sulabh Sanitation Campaign’ from Rawal village, believed to be the birthplace of Radha, Malini spelled her intention of ensuring 100% sanitation coverage by 2019. The 67-year-old lawmaker also inaugurated five modern toilets in the village. “We are committed to the development of society. This (new toilets) is a little gesturetowards service of the poor,” she said.
She also urged NRIs to contribute in this campaign, a statement concurred by founder of the Sulabh campaign Bindeshwar Pathak. Pathak urged 2 crore NRIs to provide funds for construction of 12 crore toilets across the country. He said building one toilet amounted to Rs 30,000-60,000.
