The founder of the Indian sanitation charity Sulabh International Bindeshwar Pathak (C) demonstrates his low-cost and environmentally-friendly two-pit toilet technology.

India is finding new ways to meet the challenge of providing toilets to more than 60 million homes by 2019. Dr Bindishwar Pathak, the so-called ‘toilet guru of India’, explains the cultural roots of India’s sanitation problem and shows Delhi reporter Ravinder Bawa some solutions at his Toilet Museum in the capital, while India’s minister of drinking water and and sanitation, Chaudhary Birender Singh, outline’s the government’s goal to be ‘open defecation free’.
